Review: Revolver Boutique Coffee House, Seminyak, Bali

Published by at 2:35 am under Food

If you’re in the mood for a perfect coffee in Bali, Revolver Boutique Coffee House, just off Jalan Laksmana, is where you need to head. Along with coffee, this urban-style cafe — yes hipster, even — serves up smoothies, delicious breakfasts and light lunches.

The sign you need to rescue you from the madness of Jalan Laksmana.

The coffee is a house blend and it goes down smooth — we reckon it’s about the best cup on the island, along with Anomali just up the road and Sea Circus just down the road. If you’ve not been able to find a ristretto anywhere else on the island, this is where you’ll snare one. Coffees are 20-25,000 rupiah, with an extra 5,000 rupiah for a large or extra strong brew. There’s tea, but come on, coffee is the reason for coming here. (A shot — revolver — get it?)

Come on in.

Come on in.

If you really don’t drink coffee, come for the breakfasts instead. We love the Holster, a sourdough panini of egg, bacon, great house-made relish, mayo and mozzarella (40,000 rupiah); and a close second is the Smith & Wesson, smashed avo on open sourdough slices with deliciously sweet roast tomatoes, basil and olive oil (35,000 rupiah).

Perfect.

Even just the toast with jam, vegemite, nutella or peanut butter (15,000 rupiah) is chewy and a great side to a coffee.

The main event.

If a hipster doesn’t Instagram a coffee, did it happen?

Lunches are light — we’re yet to come here for lunch yet, but the Springfield sounds good and is typical of the short but sweet sandwich list — roast beef, aioli, rocket, roast tomatoes and mozzarella on sourdough (45,000 rupiah). The Trigger, a Thai-style noodle salad, sounds good too ( 40,000 rupiah).

Grunge/vintage/industrial. Why yes, that dub step on the stereo.

The decor is worthy of mention, with a genuine rather than polished vintage industrial feel. You’ll feel like you’re in a pal’s lounge room, but in a good, comfortable way. Check out the great collection of Marilyn Monroe and sailor tattoo pix in the loos. The music’s always great, too. And the WiFi is reliably good.

It's the little things that count.

It’s the little things, right?

To find Revolver, if heading from Seminyak Square — where you’ll want to park your car if you’re driving, ignoring the customer-only sign — it’s about 50 metres up on the right. Look for the black sign. If heading from the Corner Store end (yes, it burned down, but it’s being rebuilt…) it’s quite a way down, past Cafe Bali, on the left, just past Drifter, and opposite Bali Clinic.

Where the magic happens.

Where the magic happens.
