What if my computer or phone dies in Kuala Lumpur?

Published by at 1:05 pm under Shopping

One of the worst things that can happen on a trip is your beloved laptop hard drive crashing or iPhone stalling. So where should you head if you’re in Kuala Lumpur and looking for a quick fix? The Digital Mall in Petaling Jaya is a technology hub where retailers offer not only the best deals and bargains for IT, electronics and electrical products, but can often fix, repair or answer most of your digital problems.

A techie's wonderland and a great place to score IT discounts.

With four floors of commercial retailers, it’s a supermart of gadgets, including PDAs, mobile phones, laptops, cameras, software, television sets and game consoles; the hypermarket on the third floor is the largest computer retail store in Malaysia.

Located in PJ’s town centre, it’s about a five-minute walk from Asia Jaya LRT station, but if you’re not looking to stretch those muscles, the feeder bus will drop you off directly in front of the mall. Operating daily from 10:30 till 21:30 from Sundays till Fridays and until 22:00 on Saturdays, you won’t have much of a problem turning to someone if your notebook decides to take a vacation too. Most hitches with cellphones and PDAs can be fixed on the spot or within a few hours here, and at affordable rates of 40 to 60 ringgit.

If you’re packing a Mac notebook though, the [I] Store on the second floor is an Apple Authorised Reseller, but any problems will require an assessment fee of 100 ringgit and your beloved will be sent to the service centre in Berjaya Times Square.  This can set you back two to seven working days so you’re better off heading into town for that one.

If you’re looking to buy IT-related products or camera accessories for your holiday, this is a great place to start. Browse items in different stores and don’t forget to ask the vendors what they are willing to throw in as an extra. Some will offer SD cards, camera straps, camera cases or even plain old discounts.

To get there, hop on one of the free shuttles either from the Asia Jaya LRT or its other pick-up point at Millennium Square. Check the current timetable.
