In Langkawi’s ever-changing Pantai Cenang, more and more hotels are being built or remodelled, each vying for sea views as taller structures emerge. With their feet firmly planted in the ground, however, The Cabin is a simple accommodation option with a low price tag worth considering if you’re on a budget. At 150 ringgit a night, these quirky spacious twin and double bed rooms are a steal considering they’re just a short walk to the beach itself.
Their design concept may have raised a few eyebrows back in 2008 when they opened, but the use of shipping containers for doing things other than well, shipping stuff, is now quite trendy. At a glance The Cabin may seem outdated rather than retro, but on closer inspection of the grounds and rooms, the attention to detail becomes apparent. The gardens and walkways are spotless and well maintained as well as the “buildings” themselves
The Cabin has 22 rooms, each made from half of a shipping container, and all air-con, with en suite modern baths as well as flat screen TVs, mini-fridges, kettles and private verandas. The colourful interiors and decorative touches are far better than cookie cutter hotel furnishings. The additional well-placed front windows keep the rooms well lit, yet they are surprisingly airy and cool considering they’re actual shipping containers sitting on a tropical island.
Although The Cabin is located on Pantai Cenang’s busy main road it’s quiet — and with that rather active location comes great convenience. Not only is The Cabin within a short walk to the seaside it’s also near an abundance of eating options, from curbside nasi goreng to good old-fashioned steak and potatoes.
If you find their few rooms unavailable or you really want to be beachfront, there are two nearby options, the Delta Motel and Restaurant and the Langkapuri Inn are adjacent.
Sightseeing hotspot Underwater World is also only 50 metres away as well as several duty-free stores filled with goodies to stock your mini fridge with, like cheap cold beer. And right within reach is affordable Teratai Reflexology, if you need to get the kinks out of your backpack-carrying back.
