Panorama Chalets is a backpacker haven on Malaysia‘s Perhentian Kecil, with several room and chalet options. What Panorama lacks in amenities they make up for in conveniences and location.
Practically a village within a village, their tree-laden grounds are front and centre of the sandy white shores of Long Beach, with nearly every possible desire a short walk away. The 45-150 ringgit basic options are quite sparse in decor but each bungalow comes with individual verandas, complete with a small wooden table and chairs. Some units have ensuite baths and the lower priced, shared bath options may be a bit on the rustic side for some but they do the trick — and you can’t beat the price. They also offer a nice family room chalet with ensuite hot-water showers and air-con that come with two double beds and plenty of floor space for 140-250 ringgit per night.
Panorama’s onsite restaurant, open daily from 07:30 until 22:00, has a great menu selection as well as free WiFi and an evening barbecue. Entertainment is provided with a nightly movie (usually a comedy) in the restaurant. If you’re keen on diving, they also offer affordable dive packages.
They also have a well-stocked (non-alcoholic) sundries shop on the grounds that even sell a decent assortment of fruits and vegetables. Those looking for a cold beer or something harder can head to The Monkey Bar awaiting at the beach entrance, tempting passers-by with a 16:00 until 22:30 happy ‘hour’, or across the sandy footpath is Oh Lala Tapas Bar serving beer, wine and tasty tapas. Add in a laundry service and even cashback with credit card purchases availability and Panorama Chalets is a great Perhentian Kecil option.
If you find them fully booked but are keen on the area, Oh Lala Villa is next door to the north, with 10 beachfront rooms available for 50 ringgit per night and community showers. Matahari Chalet flanks slightly inland to the south with an assortment of wooden chalets ranging from 50 to 160 ringgit plus newer rooms that offer air-con and hot water showers, but without the beach hut ambience.
