Singapore’s best happy hours

Published by at 11:17 am under Bars & nightlife

Drinking in Singapore is infamously expensive, but you can get most booze for your buck during happy hour. Most bars and lounges offer drink discounts from 17:00 to 19:00 or later to attract the after-work crowd, and this is a great opportunity to try the trendy bars at half the price. These are my favourite places to unwind with a happy hour drink.

Save on wine, Tiger beer, even Singapore Slings.

New Asia Bar: This classy spot on the 71st floor of the Swissotel discounts their drinks by 30% from 15:00 – 21:00 daily. The promotion is called “Sundowner Specials”, not happy hour, but cheap cocktails by any other name taste just as sweet. Enjoy Tiger beer from S$8, cocktails from S$12, and the amazing view. Swissotel the Stamford, Stamford Road, T: (65) 6837 3322

Brewerkz: The earlier the hour, the cheaper the pint at Brewerkz, Singapore’s favourite micro-brewery.   A 500ml glass of their Golden Ale costs S$6 from 12:00 – 15:00, S$9 from 15:00 – 18:00, and S$12 from 18:00 – 20:00. Their suds is also available by the jug (1400ml) or tower (4 litres!), and flavoured beer costs a couple bucks more. Outside of happy hour a pint will set you back S$15. Riverside Point, Clarke Quay, T: (65) 6438 7438

Café Iguana: Next door to Brewerkz, Café Iguana has the biggest selection of tequilas in Singapore and uses them to mix some yummy margaritas. They do the usual lime plus tropical flavours like mango, banana, soursop, and pink guava. “Margarita Madness” means a glass is just S$5.50 from 11:00 – 15:00, S$7.50 from 15:00 – 18:00, and S$9.50 from 18:00 – 20:00. Regular price is $S14. Riverside Point, Clarke Quay, T: (65) 6236 1275

Harry’s Bar: Almost as omnipresent as Starbucks, Harry’s Bar is an after-work favourite with Singapore’s bankers and their happy hour is a long one:  11:00 – 21:00 daily. Selected pints, wines, and cocktails are just S$10 and prices drop even further to S$6 during “crazy hour”, 17:00–19:00. Multiple locations including Orchard, Boat Quay, Holland Village, CHJIMES, the Esplanade, and Changi Airport.

Orgo: A hidden gem atop the Esplanade Theatre, Orgo is one of Singapore’s best rooftop bars. Happy hour runs from 17:00 – 20:00 daily with beers at S$7 and a glass of wine for S$10. Remember to bring your camera because the views of Marina Bay are unbeatable. 1 Esplanade Drive, T: (65) 9733 6911

Acid Bar/Alley Bar: This duo of bars just off Orchard Road offers one of the best happy hour deals in town – just S$5.50 for a standard mixed drink or S$9.90 for a pint of draught beer inclusive of tax and service charge. Happy hour runs from 17:00 – 21:00 daily.  Emerald Hill, T: (65) 6738 8818

Wala Wala Café & Bar: It’s worth the trip to the expat enclave of Holland Village for 2-for-1 happy hour drinks at Wala Wala. The promotion runs from opening until 21:00 daily and applies to mixed drinks, house wine, and beer. Wala Wala is very casual and lots of fun, especially on nights with live music.  31 Lorong Mambong, T: (65) 6462 4288
