7 days of drinking in Singapore

Published by at 6:00 am under Bars & nightlife

It doesn’t take long to realise that drinking in Singapore is an expensive habit, but drink promotions can make an evening out a little more affordable. While we have already covered Singapore’s best happy hours, here are my latest suggestions for getting the most booze for your buck every day of the week.

A new day deserves a new drink.

Monday
Timbre@Arts House, a riverside bar known for its nightly live music, kicks off the week with all-night happy hour on cocktails and premium spirits – drinks that would cost S$15 any other night of the week are discounted to S$10. Monday night also means free satay at Loof, a rooftop bar with an artsy vibe, from 18:00 to 21:00 with purchase of a drink.

Tuesday
The best beer deal in all of Singapore is S$10 pitchers every Tuesday at Cuscaden Patio, a super-casual spot just off Orchard Road. Any other night of the week they’re still a bargain at S$16. For a little entertainment with your beer, Tuesday is Quiz Night at Brewerkz and participants lock in the happy hour price of S$9 for their pints all night long.

Wednesday
At many Singapore clubs Wednesday is “Ladies Night” with free drinks and cover for female clubbers – here’s a whole post about Ladies Night promotions. For a mid-week deal that doesn’t discriminate check out Le Baroque for “Guys & Girls Night” with free-flow booze from 21:00 to 23:00 for just S$20 – hopefully you don’t have to wake up early the next day.

Thursday
It’s “Playaz Night” over at dbl O, a convenient place to party if you’re staying at one of the Bugis area hostels, with free-flow drinks from 22:30 to 00:30. Guys pay cover of S$25 but for the ladies it’s free. Over at Clarke Quay every Thursday is “Rebellion” at Zirca with DJs spinning hip hop and R&B ’til the wee hours. If you can show a student ID card there’s no cover charge and drinks are buy-1-get-1-free until 23:00.

Friday
Every Friday from 18:30 to 22:30 a glass of wine or beer is S$7 at Soma Bar near Tanglin Mall. The smells from the attached Indian restaurant are so good you just might stay for dinner. A little further down Orchard Road, Ballymoons cocktail bar kicks off the weekend with their “Six in the City” promotion. Starting from 18:00 martinis and house pour spirits are just S$6 and there are special prices on 6 bottle of beer, 6 shooters, and 6 glasses of wine.

Saturday
The beaches of Sentosa are the perfect place to spend a sunny Saturday afternoon and promotions at the beach bars make it even sweeter — combine some cheap drinks with free things to do on Sentosa for an affordable day out. Swim over to Bikini Bar for 2 ice cold bottles of beer for S$15 and S$8 mojitos from 16:00 to 19:00. Saturday is busy enough that most clubs don’t need promotions, but one exception is Stereolounge, the chill-out bar attached to thumping Stereolab, where standard drinks are buy-1-get-1-free from 21:00 through to midnight.

Sunday
If you’re travelling with the family check out Hog’s Breath Cafe, a casual Aussie-inspired restaurant at CHJIMES, where Sunday means S$8 premium beers for the parents and free meals for kids 12 and under. Sunday afternoons mean cheap drinks and live music at the newish Prince of Wales Boat Quay with S$6 ciders, S$8 pints, and S$30 margarita jugs from 14:00 to 19:00.

No mention of Insomnia? Also at CHIJMES, also $20 freeflow on Wednesdays, but women get till midnight (men still get 11 pm) – and that extra hour helps =). Has a decent Filipino cover band and is pretty popular with the Europeans.

Prince of Wales Sunday is a great deal, especially with the live music, but even during the week they’re pretty cheap too – happy hour from 9am until 8pm? That’s a long hour! And the house spirits and bottled beers are $8 during this time, every day. Plus their bottle beer of the month is only $6 at happy hour.
