Singapore’s Little India district is filled with hostels, but Bunc@Radius is a class above the rest with its chic style, fun outings and cool communal spaces. Read on to learn why it’s one of our top Singapore recommendations for flashpackers.
Opened in 2012, Bunc@Radius is one of the newest hostels in Little India as well as one of the largest, with space to sleep up to 233 people. The dorms are furnished with six to 18 bunk beds with single or double sized mattresses – ideal for travelling couples or people who simply like a little more space when they sleep. Each bed comes with two fluffy pillows and a duvet and you can sleep well knowing that the mattresses are bedbug resistant. There are also little luxuries like a small table, power point and reading lamp for each bed. Cleanliness is excellent and the dorm rooms smell noticeably fresher than most, which is thanks to a combination of air-conditioning, fan and a fresh air ventilation system.
The communal bathrooms are very stylish and spacious for a hostel with separate stalls for showers and toilets and complimentary shower gel. The ladies room has a vanity counter with hairdryers, a large mirror and chairs for morning make-up sessions.
If you prefer more privacy, Bunc@Radius has two private rooms that are better equipped than many hotel rooms with a double bed, ensuite bathroom, mini-fridge, safe, and 37” internet-enabled TV.
You may expect such a large hostel to fill every available nook with a bunk bed, but nearly half of the space is set aside for communal areas. On the ground level is a long table where a complimentary breakfast of cereal, toast and fruit is served each morning and a guest computer lounge with the option of Mac or PC. Upstairs is the guest kitchen, a movie and games room, a laundry room with coin-operated machines (S$4 per load) and an outdoor deck perfect for enjoying Singapore’s sunny days. There’s also a ladies-only lounge with a sofa and TV. To encourage guests to get to know each other, Bunc@Radius organises free events like a walking tour of Little India, movie nights and weekend trips to East Coast Park.
A night in a dorm at Bunc@Radius will cost S$20-40 depending on the size of the room and the time of year – check their website for discounts and packages. The double dorm beds cost exactly double at S$40-80 per night. Private double rooms range from S$100-180 while families or groups may want to consider renting an entire dorm room which costs about S$135 for three people or S$220 for up to eight people. Private rooms should be booked well in advance. Rates include breakfast, WiFi and a card that gets you discounts at neighbourhood businesses and bars.
A night at Bunc@Radius is definitely worth shelling out a few extra dollars for; it’s hands-down our favourite flashpacker spot in Little India.
