Cappuccino Bistro, Ko Tao

Published by at 12:43 am under Ko Tao

Cappuccino Bistro is the only French-owned bakery on Ko Tao. It serves a variety of cakes, tarts and sandwiches along with arguably the best cup of coffee around and is well located up the hill on the main road in Sairee running from the pier.

You know you want to!

This spot is a firm favourite with locals and tourists alike.  It’s open from 06:30, ensuring you can get your caffeine hit before the morning dive boat and a take-away sandwich for the surface interval too. If you’re arriving on the night boat, this is a good spot to recoup — rest, feed and get your bearings before accommodation opens for you to check into or have a look at.

Breezy benches.

Inside seating is low-rise booth-style, and each table has its own fan. Display counters tempt with their wares; just try to walk past the tarts, cakes, croissants and pain au chocolat without drooling. On the outside is a streetside balcony with a few small round tables which are a great spot to people watch and while away some time. Free Wifi is available — just the excuse you need to hang around for a chocolate brownie.

There goes the diet.

The food really is superb. They don’t scrimp on sandwich fillings and the bread is as good as you would expect from a French bistro. Their sweet treats will have you needing a larger bikini very quickly if you sample them too often but it’s got to be done – you are on holiday after all, right? The menu also offers full breakfasts, tasty salads and much more.

Staff are attentive and efficient, and the prices are excellent value for money. Expect to pay 70 to 180 baht for a sandwich, up to 90 baht for a coffee and up to 190 baht for a huge Western breakfast.

In case you thought you could walk past.

To get to Cappuccino, wander a few minutes up the hill on Sairee’s main road running from the pier and you’ll find it on the left. If it’s too busy for your taste, you could check out Zest on the next corner, too. If you’re staying further south, there’s another Cappuccino in Chalok close to but on the opposite side of the road to the 7-eleven there.

I can’t think of anyone who wouldn’t enjoy the food here. Whether you’ve just arrived and want to get away from the touts, fancy a Western-style breakfast or are hankering for a damn good sandwich, this is your spot.

Did I mention the cakes?
