Ko Tao has a range of restaurants offering some solid deals when it comes to saving money… And while streetside is always cheapest of all, here’s a selection of places to eat that are a step up with good specials.
Barracuda Restaurant and Bar is arguably the tastiest eatery on Ko Tao. Its specialty of course is fish but there’s something for the red meat eaters and the non-meat eaters too. Main meals are hearty and filling and even the salads will not leave you wanting more. Prices for a main meal range from 250 to 500 baht and they are worth every penny, but if you are on a budget then this might not be the place for you… unless you come in from 16:00 till 20:00 when starters go for 99 baht per plate. The duck liver pate has just about become a Ko Tao institution and eaten with another starter would certainly be enough for most appetites. Choose from among onion bahjis and samosas, mussels, prawns, salmon, sashimi, ravioli and chowder. Compliment your starter feast with 99 baht mojitos or two bottles of Tiger for 99 baht.

Just a few doors up from Barracuda is Babo Sushi. This tiny restaurant serves sushi very swiftly and they have an offer on most nights but Monday is the richest deal, with 25 percent off anything that you order.

Just north of the 7-eleven on the main road in Sairee is Simple Life Restaurant. The spot has a great range of dishes on the menu including barbecues, Thai dishes and wood-fired pizzas. Every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday night from 18:00 till 21:00 they offer an all-you-can-eat pizza feast for 170 baht. Pizza just keeps coming until you are full. Service can be a little slow if they are busy.

If you are around Mae Haad on a Tuesday, then the best deal around is at Moov Restaurant, Bar and Art Garden. Their menu consists of slightly larger than tapas-sized bites. Choose between Cajun chicken, gyoza, mussels, wontons, risotto and many more dishes. Each dish is around 150 baht but on a Tuesday when you buy five, you get the fifth free and mojitos are 90 baht.

Finally, we’re not particular “Ladies’ nights” fans at Travelfish.org… but if you’re on a budget and you’re female, sometimes principles can be suspended, especially when this isn’t about getting anyone drunk. Choppers Bar and Grill could be the place to be on a Tuesday, when anything marked with an ‘L’ on the menu is half price for women. Choices range from starters and salads to hearty chicken dinners, bangers and mash, pastas, burgers and Thai dishes too.
