Review: Lake Hut, Seetanu, Ko Pha Ngan

Published by at 8:43 am under Ko Pha Ngan

Those looking for some daytime entertainment on Ko Pha Ngan should head to Lake Hut to check out the Wipeout course. This fun water adventure park in Seetanu provides fun for all ages, with its intricate obstacle course floating on Laem Son lake, which was once a tin mine.

The Wipe Out course at Lake Hut

Hours of fun.

The course starts off with a rope swing, followed by obstacles that include monkey bars, padded tubular rollers that spin as you run over them, a huge blow-up “iceberg” that participants can climb up and jump off, and the most difficult part: three large red balls that must be crossed to finish the course (few people can make this part, though we’ve learned that the trick is to attempt it on your knees, hopping across them like a frog).

For 500 baht, participants can enjoy a full day on the course, which they can do as many times as they like.

If the wet adventure park isn’t your thing, it’s also fun to chill out at the restaurant, which has great views of the course, so guests can sip their drink and have a meal while watching their friends slip, slide, and fall into the lake.

Frogger.

The restaurant has an extensive menu with a great selection of both Western and Thai dishes. We recommend the baguette melts, for 199 baht, which come with real cheese, and the massaman curry, for 129 baht, which is amazing with sweet potato. They serve Singha and Tiger draft beer, in addition to wine and a host of cocktails and smoothies.

Lake Hut
itself is a two-tiered thatched roof structure, with tables and chairs downstairs, and a similar set-up upstairs with the addition of elevated, padded floor seating. The staff, who are featured on the front of the restaurant’s menu, are friendly and accommodating.

Owner Gregg hails from Britain and monitors the course, acting at times as a lifeguard, and at times as a photographer. Few people sustain injuries on the course, but in case they do, he is there to help.

If you like to watch.

There is a new toy here called the blob, on which one person sits at the end, and another jumps down from a high elevation onto the other end, and the other goes flying into the air upon impact. It’s good fun, and just as fun to observe.

It’s also possible to rent a kayak for an hour from Lake Hut to explore Laem Son lake, and those who eat or drink at the restaurant may use the rope swing for free.

Find Lake Hut along the beach road, on the left hand side, when heading to the north of Seetanu, after Mama Pooh’s restaurant.

So basically people are swimming in the remnants of a tin mine? Thoughts on environmental hazards, anyone? ;)
