Christmas on Ko Pha Ngan 2013

Published by at 9:53 am under Ko Pha Ngan

There’s nothing like a white(sand) Christmas rung in with pina coladas instead of Bailey’s and coffee, palm trees in lieu of the traditional pine, and sand castles instead of a snowman. But… there’s something irreplaceable about a Christmas dinner. If you’re planning on winding up on Ko Pha Ngan this 2013 holiday season, we’ve rounded up details on the best Christmas dinners on the island.

Masons Arms Ko Pha Ngan

Step into Little Britain for Christmas dinner.

The Mason’s Arms, located on the beach road heading to the west coast of the island on the outskirts of Thong Sala, was modelled after the owner’s favourite British pub back in England. Those looking to step back into the UK for a couple of hours should head here for their Christmas spread, consisting of turkey, stuffing, roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding and other English favourites for 500 baht. 145/5 Thong Sala, (077) 238 526

For a real Christmas treat with a view, head to one of the island’s best restaurants, Peppercorn — located at the top of a hill overlooking the stunning Haad Salad bay, the view here can’t be beat. Choose from one of two dishes, the Christmas goose roast, with homemade gravy, salmon canapes, apple red cabbage, and homemade bread dumplings, with Bavarian Cream for dessert (1,280 baht), or a spiced lamb roast, with duck breast canapes, butter spinach, pommes-croquettes, and homemade Bernaise sauce, plus creme brulee for dessert (1,260 baht). Books are essential. On offer too is an excellent selection of fine wines and liqueurs — the helpful German host is always happy to impart her wine knowledge to ensure a perfect pairing. If you’re looking for something less formal, head to the laidback Outlaw’s Saloon. They do a Scandinavian Christmas dinner December 24, with both a Swedish and Danish option, the former featuring meatballs and Christmas ham, and the latter featuring roast duck breast and red cabbage. On Christmas Day proper they offer a traditional dinner, featuring turkey, stuffing, Yorkshire pudding and cranberry sauce for 399 baht. Book in advance as tables fill up fast! 112/21 Ban Tai Rd, Thong Sala; T: (088) 167 9549
