Malaysian low cost carrier AirAsia has just announced a new raft of discounted flight deals, with fares as low as 49 ringgit for a KL to Kota Bharu flight -- not bad. These prices are all before the many charges, extras, surcharges, surtaxes and other costs that you'll often need to pay anyway.

Remember when a flight just cost X?

Deals that jumped out at us include the following:

KL - Makassar 109 ringgit
KL - Perth 299 ringgit
Johor Bahru - Kota Kinabalu 89 ringgit
Phuket - Ubon Ratchathani 690 baht (handy for Laos)

We checked out this piece from The Australian this morning, which doesn't mention when A$99 AirAsia X Sydney-Kuala Lumpur tickets go on sale... and when we tried to check the site it was so slow we presumed the sale must have started. One tweet and response from our Kuala Lumpur correspondent (who snared a ticket!) later, and we can confirm the sale is on... if you can get onto the site.

Within reach from Sydney for $99... if you're quick.

The Australian piece quotes AirAsia X chief executive Azran Osman-Rani as saying he expects the cheap fare, for travel from April 2 to October 27, to sell out within 24 hours. After that the one-way fares are to start from $199 to $450. Good luck!

Singapore-based low-cost-carrier Tiger Airways has just announced another raft of special deals but you're going to have to be quick, with the sale running from December 22 to December 28 -- the travel period though in some cases stretching through much of 2012.

If you're one to plan ahead, there are some pretty good deals to be had. Fares below are from the Tiger special deals page and are for one-way travel with hand luggage only. These are also inclusive of all taxes and charges (according to Tiger Airways).

The below image is just about all we know about this, the latest AirAsia sale, which kicks off in a few hours. At 23:00 on 7 December (tonight, we're assuming it is Kuala Lumpur time, so GMT +8) the sale begins. Looking at the banner, our guess is on some kind of sale where flights are 100 ... something! 100 ringgit perhaps, though 100 cents would be even better!

AirAsia's website often crashes with these mega sales, so be prepared for a few attempts to get your bookings through -- or just wait for the morning and pick up whatever is left over.

Update

So Malaysia Asia is saying the deal is for flights as low as 10 sen (one way only and IMPORTANTLY before taxes, fuel surcharge and anything else they can come up with). Booking period is 8-11 December for flight times 1 July - 27 October 2012.

Looking for a quick trip up to Hanoi to spend some time cruising on Ha Long Bay, trekking in Sapa or just hanging out in Hanoi doing nothing? If you are, you'll be happy to hear that low cost carrier Tiger Airways have a range of special deals going at the moment, with their flights between Singapore and Hanoi catching our eye as being pretty great value.

Singapore-Hanoi return for under S$200.

You'll need to be quick, as while the special deal starts at S$88 (including tax) ex-Singapore and S$96 ex-Hanoi, tickets are bookable only from now till 7 December 2011 for travel between February 1 and June 30, 2012.

A bit of a last minute deal that I heard about on Twitter (thanks @Karla_Cripps), but if you're in Bangkok right now and want to get out of town, THAI has a last minute sale with flights to Chiang Mai, Udon Thani and Phuket for 1,500 baht (plus 100 baht tax).

Escape Bangkok tonight with THAI!

The tickets are no refund, no date change and no miles, but it's a very good price on a full-service airline.

So, if you're slumming it in Bangkok looking for a reason to get out of town, look no further -- after all Phuket is enjoying some lovely weather at the moment.

Thailand's Ko Pha Ngan remains one of the best places in Thailand to grab a cheap beach bungalow, and while the days of a 30 baht beachfront shack are pretty much gone, there are some good deals still be had.

Enter Lime n Soda Beachfront Resort on Baan Tai beach on Ko Pha Ngan. They've got a cracking promotion on Agoda going at the moment where a three-night or longer stay in one of their fan-cooled bungalows will attract a discount of 60% -- for the duration of the stay.

The deal is available both for the simple fan-cooled bungalows, which are going for 340 baht, their larger family bungalows for 816 baht and, for those who want to be on the water, beachfront rooms for 952 baht. (All rates are discounted but before applicable tax.)

How good a deal is this? We think not too bad a deal at all, though we'd imagine these are for the older bungalows on the property -- but hey it's a beach holiday right?! While we've not stayed here ourselves, the reviews, both on Agoda and TripAdvisor, are quite positive.

Facilities include free WiFi, swimming pool and a beach bar. The location is a little on the isolated side and you are a long way from the Full Moon scene, but that's probably a good thing.

Lime n Soda is towards the western end of Baan Tai, which is a shortish ride from Thong Sala town. Baan Tai is one of the longest beaches on the island -- ideal for meandering beach walks.
