For those itching to to show off their vocal talents beyond a karaoke performance, L’Espace, the French Cultural Centre in Hanoi, is giving you just that chance. On 12th February and 5th March at 8.30pm they are having ‘Cabaret Nights‘ when song-writers and singers are invited to perform on stage.
Anyone can participate but the organisers are looking for songs that fit with the traditional French cabaret theme. The organiser, Anne-Marie Coquelin, is particularly keen to involve composers in Vietnamese, English or French and really wants to encourage non-French speakers to get involved. She says, “We often sing in English there (at least as much as in French) and I would be pleased if more English speakers could enjoy it, including you!”.
In order to help them plan a balanced schedule and ensure a high quality performance, interested parties will be invited to perform in advance for the organisers. Individuals who only want to sing – rather than accompany themselves on guitar for example – will have the opportunity to practice in advance with the regular musicians at L’Espace.
Anne-Marie says, “The performances are rather simple therefore more difficult for the singers: live music, often one guitar only and drums sometimes and just the voice and the quality of the interpretation.”
If you are interested in performing contact Anne-Marie on firstname.lastname@example.org.
Of course, the cabaret nights are open to those who just want to enjoy the performances too — and admission is free.
L’Espace frequently hosts musical and theatrical events which are notified on Hanoi Grapevine and The New Hanoian.
L’Espace is located near Hanoi’s Opera House at 24 Tràng Tiền, Hà Nội. Tel: +84 (0) 439 362 164.
