The Rugby World Cup has kicked off and goes on until the final on October 23. If you’re a fan, where can you watch the games, and other sporting events, in Hanoi?
Puku will be showing live games upstairs on its projector screen with a barbecue for the big weekend games. It’s a chilled spot to catch the game with a beer and some decent grub. Check their spot on The New Hanoian for further information or call first to check the schedule. They also show English Premier League games at the weekends with a free beer for those who arrive before kick-off.
Jaspas, on the fourth floor of The Somerset Grand, is set up for sporting events — it has a clear schedule on its website — but can lack atmosphere if it’s not a widely popular game. It’s also on the pricey side with a glass of beer coming in at around 30,000 VND.
Hanoi Backpackers’ Hostel on Ma May will be screening the games on the big TVs in the bar. There’s usually a good crowd there even when the rugby’s not on so your only problem might be getting a space in front of the TV. But expect a lively atmosphere — especially for the Antipodean games.
JAFA, over in Ciputra, will also be screening the games but it’s a real trek from the centre and can lack atmosphere. If you make the trip you’ll be rewarded with prizes, giveaways, beer specials and free snacks for the big games.
Remember that some games may be streamed through the internet so might be subject to lag. This is Vietnam after all.
