After the success of last summer’s weekly Piknic Electronik music event, organisers Synergy Music Production couldn’t resist another season. This year, to beat the heat, a swimming pool is being thrown into the mix – what better way to cool off than with an ice cold drink and a dip while listening to some electronic dance music?
It’s also – literally – a bigger venue: stretching 336 metres into the sky, Keangnam Hanoi Landmark Tower is the tallest building in Hanoi. But it’s the ground floor pulling the crowds in on a Sunday afternoon, with the opportunity to chill out, catch up with friends, drink some beer and have a swim. Entrance is free.
With Synergy involved you’d expect music to feature heavily in the event, and you won’t be disappointed as the best DJs in Hanoi, along with special guests, take a turn to entertain.
Steve Stander, founder of Synergy, told me: “Piknic Electronik in Hanoi is an opportunity to hear quality electronic music, in a setting unlike anywhere else in Hanoi. The event allows for travellers, expats and locals to integrate and get a taste for where the EDM scene is heading in Vietnam.”
If you’re here with kids, it’s a great place to take them to, with plenty of space for running around, while of course the pool will appeal to old and young alike.
Food and drink are available at reasonable prices: remember, this isn’t a backpacker bar in Old Quarter, so you’re going to pay a bit more than you might be used to (and note that no outside food or drinks are allowed).
The only potential downside is the location in Cay Giay district, a 20- to 30-minute taxi ride from Old Quarter and the West Lake area, but get a group of you together and the taxi cost won’t hurt too much (expect to pay up to around 100,000 VND). And did I mention that entry is free?
Piknic Elektronic is held every Sunday from 16:00-22:00 until November 11.
