busylizzy buttons

  • somtam2000

As you may notice, the forum screen is a little different. As requested I've added little buttons so you can link and format your text without bothering with the pesky BBCode.

I haven't checked it in all browsers yet, so if you have probs getting it to work, please comment below.

    Enjoy :)

Before you ask, Edit function is in new site.

    Testing the Quote thingy

The Youtube buttom really just makes the link, for example:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OQSNhk5ICTI

Then you can link it with the url button
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OQSNhk5ICTI

    Enjoy the rainbow ;-)

    Last try.

I get the image when I switch back to regular posting mode from HTML, but then when i post, only a link. Probably only certain tags allowed.

Ugh! What happened there? The last bit of underlining shouldn't have been there.

Also - the quote doesn't seem to work - at least not as I imagined it might. I put some text in my post, highlighted it, then hit the quote button. All th text just disappeared.

Are the HTML codes thingys (technical term) putting extra spaces in? I don't think I put that much space in my message above?

    Nice pic.

I forgot I had disabled some of the tags (lists for example), I'll sort that out with the update tonight. Likewise with the double spacing.

Quote works for me -- all it does is put it in quotes as in the post above. Nothing fancier for now. busy busy busy.

    :)

Ahhh... OK, I was expecting something different, that's all. Didn't realise it was actually putting quote marks around it - silly me. Now I know.... :-)

Anyhow, it's very cool and I promise not to get all psychedically colourful in future (unless I'm REALLY excited about something.)

You deserve an afternoon in the hammock with a Bintang - have one on me!

    Oooh.There are lots of new buttons now ... Cool!!! Just one [color=rgb(0, 0, 102)]extraordinarily [color=rgb(0, 153, 153)][color=rgb(153, 102, 51)][color=rgb(255, 0, 0)][color=rgb(0, 0, 51)][color=rgb(0, 0, 0)]useful [/color][/color][/color][/color][/color][/color]button still seems to be missing ...more useful than [color=rgb(0, 0, 102)]t[color=rgb(255, 255, 0)]e[color=rgb(204, 0, 102)]c[color=rgb(102, 0, 255)]h[color=rgb(153, 0, 204)]n[color=rgb(255, 255, 204)]i[color=rgb(51, 153, 51)]c[color=rgb(153, 0, 0)]o[color=rgb(102, 51, 204)]l[color=rgb(51, 255, 204)]o[color=rgb(255, 0, 51)]r [/color][/color][/color][/color][/color][/color][/color][/color][/color][/color][/color]even! Also can we have some smileys, ones that express [color=rgb(204, 204, 255)][color=rgb(255, 0, 0)]subtle enigmatic[/color][color=rgb(255, 0, 0)] [/color][/color]expressions would be good. (Don't ask me how I managed to underline red text with light blue, I don't know). ;-)

Where am I supposed to use double spacing (or not). Some people don't have this innate knowledge you know. But I do know HTML means hypertext markup language (whatever that means). What are tags? Are they something to do with things that move (like eyebrows)

And now for a moving video.................

Mostly I use Google blogger so I don't have to know html, but it does help. I think the fish folks are using some sort of web page developer program too that allows him to make posting simplified for us users, so I'm not sure which parts are part of this web page and which part are normal tags. Also some are supported and others not. I figured out photos but won't do more (or at least smaller file size), if he wanted us to paste photos he would make a button to do so, there might be other surprising stuff, hard to tell because as you noted switching from "source" back to regular view doesn't really tell us what will eventually show up.

Normally you can just use the block of stuff on you tube entiteled "embed" and it works. I've tried for a while tonight too, I don't have good video anyway.

    Wow........great work, Somtam!

And what a lot of work.

Do you actually have a life of your own, or does it all revolve within the orbit of TF?
    Just curious......... :)

(Clearly, the color text option has struck a responsive chord here.)

    Cheers!

I've disabled the list button and the yourtube button. The later was never going to let clips be embedded anyway, and I don't have time to fix the lists right now. You can mess around with it (ie the code still kind of works, I've just removed the button), but I'd prefer if you let it go!

Images can be made to work but it is tedious (you need to wrap it in a link and it is easier done in the code side. Please don't bother for now.

    In answer to queries:
@somsai There are two automated processes. First the BBcode and now these buttons to make is easier for people to format their text. Normal HTML won't work - it is disabled on purpose. So first we swap that out for real HTML so stuff displays how you want. The second process is an automatic script that runs through linking out to destinations, so for example if you type Ko Tao in your text, we automatically link to the section within Travelfish. This is intended to make it easier for people to find stuff, and, with a few side issues (eg Tra Vinh ) it works pretty well. Because we're doing this in two stages, it makes providing an "edit" option considerably more complicated. That is why I put it off for so long.

@Archmichael Thanks. Yes, I would like to have some of my life back. I'll be taking a break when the new site launches.

@SBE Loved the vid - cracked me up.

At the end of the day the forum is hand made, so is never going to have all the bells and whistles of a commercial platform like TT or Tales of Asia - but it does work pretty well if you want to ttype in some text :)

    Cheers
