There's a squillion travel blogs out there and they're only growing in number, but we'll be using this thread to recommend good travel blogs we stumble across ... they're easier to find when they link to Travelfish -- hint hint ;-)

First off the rank comes Backpackstorybook -- a great little blog with some top pics and some pretty useful surfing advice for those thinking of catching a wave in Vietnam. They've just finished their trip through SE Asia and finish with this very good advice:

"Perhaps the biggest lesson I've learnt about travel on this trip is not to rush it. So often I've spoken to people who only have four days to see a country before speeding off to the next one, the whole region 'done' in two weeks annual leave.

My advice is to save up your money and holidays (or just sell it all and go) and give yourself as much time as you can in a country. Vietnam needs a month, minimum. Two if you can. Cambodia as long as you can stand it. Laos? Two weeks for the north alone."

Well worth a read.

Here's another great Laos and northern Thailand focussed blog: Eric Brochu's Haiku Factory. The blog summarises a month-long trip into a series of condensed entries accompanied by some terrific photos.

On Muang Ngoi:

"Muang Ngoi’s only connection to the outside world is the river — there is no road and no motor vehicles, no banks, no phones, no internet, and in fact, no electricity, except for a couple hours after sunset when the town generator kicks in. Just two-dollar-a-night bungalows and nothing to do but get up with the chickens (really, you have no choice — they are loud), eat Lao food, drink delicious Lao coffee, and lie in a hammock reading and watching the river go by."

Sounds great!

Another great travel blog -- this one following a 1,000 holiday. The latest entries have some good info on motorbiking in Laos -- and some great pics to boot!
