When we moved from Phnom Penh to Jakarta, one of the first things we noticed was the incredible tropical climate here. The humidity was off the scale and the whole place felt like the jungle was itching to take the city back in a moment.

Likewise when wet season came it was like "Wow, now that is a real monsoon"...

So if you've been watching the news over the last few days you will have noticed that Jakarta got the floods pretty bad...it sure did!

We were lucky -- our house is two floors so were able to move a lot upstairs, though not everything. In a matter of a little under 24 hours we went from bone dry to over a meter of water in the living room and over two metres in the backyard and the street -- this is in a property that hasn't flooded in over 20 years...

Below are a few pics to give you an idea of how changeable the weather can be in a monsoonal climate We relocated to Bali last night till the worst passes -- with a nine week old baby and no power or fresh water for at least the next two weeks, we needed to leave. We're amongst the lucky few who have the means to get out of a situation like this.

If you're ever caught in a flood, don't move things just to the tabletops thinking the water won't continue to rise -- it will!!!
