As some may recall, our place was flodded out in the Jakarta floods and we split to Bali to wait for the waters to drop. We spent a little over a week on Bali, with the last few days spent at the rather tremendous Pondok Pisces which, as we don't cover Bali, I thought I'd like to let you know about here.

Set overlooking the Balian river which empties out onto the black sand Balian Beach, Pondok Pisces has two three storey bungalows (along with a few other options in another area). They're fully kitted-out with kitchen, living room (TV, DVD etc) and top floor bedroom. While the bungalows themselves are excellent, the gardens are stunning -- we've travelled in Asia for over a decade and couldn't think of a place with better gardens than here.

Staff are top notch, food both tasty and very very affordable. We stayed along with three month-old Lyla, and even she liked it! There's a terrific break with good rides for both goofy and natural footers -- see their website for more pics.

It's not a budget joint, more in the flashpacker range -- we paid around US50 a night and it was worth every penny.

So if you're heading to Bali and want something well away from the tourist fiesta at Kuta and Seminyak, check out Pondok Pisces -- in the meantime, here's a few pics.

More info at the Pondok Pisces website.

Ah, that's great -- be sure to say hi to Tom and Tati from Stuart, Sam and baby Lyla!

If you're up for a splurge, their bebek betutu (roasted whole duck, delivered to your bungalow) -- it's divine!
