Listings for guesthouses not visited in by a researcher

  • somtam2000

Commencing today, over the coming weeks, we're rolling some new Malaysia content onto Travelfish. It will be different from our existing coverage in that the accommodation reviews will not have been written by a Travelfish reviewer who visited the property in question in order to review it.

The reviews are clearly marked as not being written by us -- both on the accommodation summary page and the pages for the individual properties (where such a page is available). The text is supplied to us by reservation agents who can facilitate online bookings at these properties For example, HostelWorld or Hostelbookers). In some cases, the reviews may have been written by the guesthouse or property concerned. If you make a reservation through any of these places, a small commission may be payable to Travelfish.

It's basically the same info you see if you use the search box to look for properties that can be booked online.

The general overview, sights and transport information of destinations like this, Kota Bharu for example, has still been written by Travelfish researchers who have been to the destination in question -- in person.

As soon as a researcher revisits the destination and reviews the accommodation, the above listings will disappear to be replaced with our own reviews.

    Why are we doing this?
Primarily because it will allow us to list more destinations, far more quickly for Malaysia (and elsewhere should we decide to expand further). We saw little point in either displaying our coverage without giving readers some options for accommodation, or sitting on the writeups until we got a researcher up there to take a close look at the guesthouses etc.

If you want to see an example of how it works, this is the accommodation summary page for KB and this is an individual property page for somewhere in KB that we have not reviewed in person.

If you've any thoughts or queries about this, please feel free to comment below or contact me directly and I'll answer as best I can.

    Thanks

I have been looking for a place to contact you , but I cannot find a "contact us" section so here is my question-
How can oen post a review of a hotel/guesthouse if it is not listed? I have stayed at a lot of great, new places that are not listed in any guidebook (yet) and would like to review them. How would one go about doing this? (I have photos of the properties & the rooms)
