Hi there
What is the best non flying way to get from Laos to southern Vietnam? At the moment we are in Thakhek (Laos)We've been traveling last 2 month also wanted to go to Cambodia but we have no time to make it,Iam affraid. So we would like to get to the south and then travell up to north. We have fly on the 28th march from Hanoi to Lndn.
Its good to mention we definitely wanna stay one wk in Cat Ba island Do we have enough time to make our way across Vietnam?
Nam Pheo / Cau Treo -- Vinh in Vietnam and closest to you.
Dansavanah / Lao Bao -- Convenient for you and close to Hue .
You can also cross down by Pakse, but that is slow going and if you want to concentrate on getting out of Laos and into Vietnam would not be the best option.
All of these options put you into Central Vietnam, not the South. If you go down south after entering from Laos then you will be backtracking on the way back up north.
Being that you'd cross over to Vinh from Thakhek it may be a good idea to go down to Savannakhet for a night or two and then cross over to Hue - that will put you into Vietnam by Hoi An. You then have the chance to decide if you'd like to fly to HCMC and then work your way back up north overland . . .though you could do that in Vinh as well.
