Several bombs went off almost simultaneously in Myanmar yesterday (Friday. June 24th) Places affected were Naypyidaw (the newly built capital), Pyin Oo Lwin ( hill station with a large military academy) and Mandalay ( 2 bombs went off here). It doesn't look like anyone was killed in the blasts though a few people got injured.

The series of blasts comes amid an armed conflict between government troops and the Kachin Independence Army, Burma's second largest ethnic armed group, that started on June 9.
Blasts were also reported in Kachin State earlier this week, in the state capital, Myitkyina, and in Bhamo, near the Chinese border.

I noticed the Irrawaddy had also just published this backpacker's trip report which might be useful for anyone going there.

I liked this bit:
In Mandalay we asked a rickshaw driver why men in Burma wear the Longyi, what it’s good for. He laughed and said: “In a Longyi you can make children quickly and then immediately run away.”
