Malaria Pill free in Burma? Safe?

  • Warriorcandy

my husband and i plan on trying to conceive in January and we will be in Burma from Dec 13 till the 23rd. I am wondering what we can do aside from Malaria pills. I can't take the pills as i am afraid they will harm my fertility (and my husbands) and we are not at liberty to wait as i have some issues. Do you take anti malaria pills when you go? Will hiking and such be safe or should we change our itinerary?

I don't think anyone here is a medical expert, so you need to do research i.e. http://www.fhi.org/en/rh/pubs/network/v19_2/tropdiseases.htm

Personally I stopped taking Malaria meds and use citronella products, although it is not considered as effective as DEET, which is not recommended for use on young children.

+there are no meds or vaccine against Dengue fever yet, so the "lotion" you select will help for both. http://www.chiangraitimes.com/news/803.html

Stick to the pills and wait till February for starting a family.
