my wife and i are visiting myanmar in late november/december as part of a 4/5 month trip around se asia we have booked a flight to yangon from bangkok and have booked our first hotel in yangon the rest of our trip is fluid as we have no real time limits as to how long we stay. would we have a problem returning to yangon and booking a flight to KL or Jakarta the same or next day

You're unlikely get the cheapest fare but you should get something even if it's via Bangkok. Remember that you'll only get 28 days on your visa so will be limited by that (although apparently overstays by a day or two aren't too much of an issue); travel is slow and you may need longer than originally anticipated, and also internet access can be patchy and slow which can be frustrating when trying to do things like make bookings and payments on line - although in Yangon it's normally OK.

thanks kirsty B we are mainly concerned with having to stay another 2/3 days in yangon waiting for a flight but we dont want to tie ourselves down with a fixed departure date

You could always leave your Yangon sightseeing until the end of the trip that way you'll have some things to do if you have to wait for a couple of days ........
