I plan, early next year, to go to Burma. I shall arrive in Yangon at 10 30 am or so. Can I just take a cab into the center of town and look for guest house or should I book ahead.
Thanks

According to the forum, I am posting within Vietnam -- I wish. I am in my office in NYC.

Good idea to have a place booked ahead of time, Tim, especially if you're going around peak tourist season.

Both times that we've flown into Yangon we've had a place booked ahead of time.
Both times we arrived quite early, around 0900 and had a ride waiting for us as well as being able to check in very early.

I don't think you'll have any problem getting a taxi at the airport (around US$10) to downtown but I do suggest booking accommodation - that seems to be the advice for everywhere in Burma during peak season. We returned a week ago and even in low season, Yangon accommodation seemed quite tight. Elsewhere we were always able to find somewhere, although we always booked a day or two ahead from the town we were leaving.
