    Hello,

Planning a short one week stay in Burma mid August 2014 and looking for your thoughts on the best region to stay to get a taste of what Burma has to offer, thanks in advance.

With just a week I'd limit yourself to Yangon and Bagan - I just you could fit in a third spot, say Mandalay or Nyaung Shwe (for Inle lake) but then you'd really need to do some domestic flying.

If you wanted to fit as much as you could in, with a week you could do something like:
    Day 1 Arrive, Yangon
    Day 2 Yangon
Day 3 Morning flight to Bagan
    Day 4 Bagan
Day 5 Flight to either Mandalay or Heho (for Inle Lake)
Day 6 Mandalay or Inle Lake
Day 7 Afternoon flight back to Yangon for exit

Personally I'd be inclined to spend an extra day in Yangon and Bagan and skip the others because I don't like flying and the above is a lot to fit into 7 days -- but people do it.

Somtam 2000 thanks for taking time to reply, seems a lot of moving around in a week, I was thinking of just staying in one destination that being Yangon or maybe two at a pinch.

Is there enough to see and do in Yangon for a week, if not which would be your second destination of choice?

Oh ok I'd definitely just stay in Yangon then! I thought you were looking to fit in more sorry. I was there earlier this year and loved it. Spent 6 days all up I think.

The circular train is well worth doing, plus google Golden Harp tours to do a city tour with ex political prisoners - I did their half day tour and was extremely worthwhile ( you can pick wherever you want to go)

Can also do a boat ride across the river and explore the area over there - great in late afternoon when u get a nice light on the river.

But more generally Yangon is a fab walking city - I loved it.

Sorry for no links - am on phone at moment, but we'll have more sights stuff for Yangon on the site soon.

Also check the Burma blog http://www.travelfish.org/blogs/burma

    Cheers
