The ABC Australian television program Foreign Correspondent has scheduled for Tuesday 14th July an indepth program on Myanmar.
The program describes the content as:
[colour=blue]"Last year Cyclone Nargis devastated Burma. Thousands of orphaned children were left to fend for themselves. Undercover camera teams risk jail to reveal their touching stories of the youngest survivors".
Foreign Correspondent programs are usually hard hitting and revealing.
ABC Australia also screens Foreign Correspondent on Australia network.
The scheduling of this program is:

I submitted the above post before the actual screening here in Oz in case an Oz resident may have been on Travelfish.
I then watched the program. I urge others to try and watch.
The moral question that emerges is whether a tourist should choose to visit Myanmar. The naysayers suggest their visit would be supporting the military Junta. This view is dominant on Travelfish.
After watching the exceedingly heart wrenching doco, I started wondering.
For every penny I spend as a traveller, some proportion trickles down to the less advantaged. On that basis, I asked myself "if I went to visit Myanmar, wouldn't some proportion of my dollars end up in the hands of the disadvantaged?
The alternative view suggests that the difference between a horrible self serving military junta and a centralist administration (as in Vietnam or Laos, or Cambodia) or a faction riddled government (as in Thailand) is but a matter of degree.
I know those in opposition to the military junta will here bleat, but go watch the program and watch what happens to your heart. And then struggle with your thoughts
no cheers on this one

Thank you so much for this info. We are currently in VN and toying with the idea of going to Burma at the end of our trip. I am very undecided about the ethics of this! I tried to use your link to Oz network but cannot access it from here. Did you find the programme schedule for Foreign Correspondent in VN when you looked? If so would you mind adding it here?

Very powerful and it has me more detrmined than ever to go and do whatever I am able to and can, to give some of my $ to the population. I know some will go to the Junta, but I will try to make as much as possible go to the people.

I'm heading to Burma in October, I'm just trying to find a link to this doco now.
I believe if you travel responsibly in Burma you can have a farm more positive impact than negative
