SYM Bonus 125cc, bought in Saigon and used as a run-around bike for 5 months before doing the trip to Hanoi. 2,500km trouble free.

Originally intended to import to Thailand, however the borders aren't working so well these days (or rather too well), and failed both tries to get into Laos.

Had everything and anything replaced as and when required (bearings, tyres, chain, battery, filters, oil, brake shoes) and comes with spare (new and good quality) parts (brake shoes, cables, innertube) and a lot of tools/stuff/full face helmet/mosquito net hammock.

Only 'problem' is some cam chain rattle, which it's had since I bought it. Cam chain has been checked and it's fine, just the tensioner isn't quite strong enough to keep it quiet.

Really want to get out of Vietnam now, so open to any sensible offers.

    Sorry, half asleep today.

Also happy to explain how to fix everything, and go over routes/useful Vietnamese if you’re happy to throw a few beers my way.

    Hey Mate,

Did you sell this? Is a SYM Bonus 125cc a Honda Bonus 125cc? How much are these worth?

    Thanks,
    Tom.

    Hi Tom
A year ago bonuses were fetching 450 but now they seem to be available for around 300
the reason being they are a great town bike but due to poor desighn of the oil ways in the head they dont like getting hot on a long run and suffer valve and cam probs
    Hope this helps

Thanks Johny. I really had my heart set on a Honda Custom 125cc or 250cc for my Vietnam adventure. Is this a poor choice for a non rushed trip North to South over about 6 weeks? If I have a slightly larger budget than average for a bike and I want something nice what would be a good choice?

Any feedback is much appreciated :)

    Hi peach
Its a nice idea but a good 250 is about 2000 usd in vietnam and if you have not got a police level 2 liscense the first cop thats stops you will impound it . You are going to need a bike that has parts available all over asia is reliable as it can be considering and
will be sellable after . The best bike is the win . A reconed one can be picked up in saigon for 300usd from a dealer and 400 in hanoi
They can be bought a little cheaper from another tourist . but be prepared to trudge the pavement to find a good one

    Happy trip johny
