Cambodia travel in August/Sambor Prei Kuk?

Due to work reasons I am only able to make a trip to Cambodia during August. I was wondering what the weather is like then and how torrential the rain will be. I've read reports ranging from "it's the best time of year. discount hostels/tours, less tourists, and the best time to see Ankor dust free and lush with green vegetation."
to "Leeches in puddles, downpour with no visibility, roads destroyed."

I expect variation depending on the weather. I will be only traveling on the main road from Phnom Pehn to Siem Reap (and of course to Ankor).

    Any Ankor photos/advice for August?

Also, what is Sambor Prei Kuk like, worth a visit?
