Trying to avoid back tracking where possible, although seems going to Phnom Phen twice might be unavoidable. We have about 9 days. Want to head into Thailand by border that takes us into Trat so we can go to Ko Chang. Here is my thinking, but advice appreciated.
Day 1 - Coming in from Mekong Delta in Vietnam up to Pnom Phen by boat
Day 2-4 Siam Reap
Day 5 - travel back to Phnom Phen, and down to Sihanoukhanville
Day 6-8 hang out down there, try and take in Bokor Stn, maybe Kampot (is this feasible in this time?)
Day 9 - Travel by boat over to Koh Kong to cross border into Thailand
Should we be heading to Sihanoukhanville first, and then up to Angkor? If so, can we then travel down to Koh kong?
That is all doable, though another routing could be:
Day 1 - leave Chau Doc, boat to Phnom Penh, then head south on the same day to Kampot. overnight in Kampot
Day 2,3 - Kampot, visit Bokor/Kep overnight in one of the three
Day 4,5 - head Kampot to Sihanoukville, hang out on the beach
Day 6 leave Sihanoukville for PP, overnight in PP
Day 7,8,9 PP to Siem Reap, experience Angkor Wat
Day 9, Siem Reap - Poipet - Chanthaburi - Trat - Ko Chang (easily doable in a day) and then you don't need to go via Ko Kong
What squeezes your time is seeing both Kampot/Kep/Bokor AND Sihanokville - if you drop one or the other, then you end up with more time at a more relaxed pace. Not being a huge fan I'd drop Sihanoukville, but if you NEED your Cambodian beach hit, then it is the place.
