So I am heading to Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia in March!

I am doing a whirlwind trip in 16 days.
Probably won't hit up that many places but I want a taste of each.
I plan on either taking a bus or boat from Ho Chi Minh to Phnom Penh then heading up to Laos for a week or so.
I am on a tight budget so I was hoping someone could give me tips for cheap transportation from Cambodia to Laos? Airline companies?
I've done most of Thailand so I was hoping to bypass it.
I've been going through the forums and I can't quite seem to find what I'm looking for!
Any help would be appreciated
Thank you!

Yeah, a bus from Phnom Penh to Kratie or straight up to Stung Treng first, then another bus from there across the border to Southern Laos (Si Phan Don or Pakse). Pretty cheap and straightforward, but would definitely suggest breaking it up and spending a night in Kratie or ST.

Thanx for your replies!
How long do you think it would take by bus?
Is the bus ride manageable? I've been hearing some horror stories about some of the longer ones.

To go straight from PP to the border it takes like 9 hours give or take 7. Very do-able. Though a stop in Kratie or Banlung (Banlung!) would make the trip more enjoyable IMAO.
