I'm flying into Phnom Penh from Melbourne and want to do cambodia and laos in 3 weeks so hoping to cut time by flying up north and travelling south by land. Can I fly from Phnom Penh to Luang Prabang or Luan Nam Tah and is 3 weeks enough to try to see a fair bit of Laos and visit siem reap and phnom penh?

Hi Marie,
Three weeks should be enough for a nice look at Cambodia and Laos. If you are travelling to Siem Reap after arriving in Phnom Penh, perhaps you'd be better off to try and fly to Luang Prabang from Siem Reap. You can take the Lao Airways route via Pakse and Vientiane, or the Bangkok Airways route via Bangkok. The Bangkok Airways will be much more expensive I'm afraid. Check out those two websites to see if the flight times and fares fit your needs. Regards.

Marie,
As a follow up, if you were willing to switch your travel by going overland on the way up to Luang Prabang and flying back south, the Siem Reap Airways website lists a flight from Luang Prabang directly back to Siem Reap three times a week. Oddly, it does not list a flight from Siem Reap directly to Luang Prabang. I don't know if that fits your plans or not, or if you've already made your plans, but wanted to share this info just in case. Cheers.

Check out the discovery airpass from Bangkok Airways. Here is the webpage http://www.bangkokair.com/discoveryairpass/ If you are going to be flying to 3 or more cities, this might save you some money. I know it sure did for me.

Hi Marie,
Have a look at this website: http://www.traveller2000.com/ , it lists domestic and international flights around South East Asia.

iwillfly525 that's a good tip -- wrth noting the Discovery Pass can only be purchased outside of Thailand -- you can't leave it till you're in country to buy the ticket.

Lao Airlines does not fly this route. I suggest you go via Vientiane and spend a few days there.
Phnom Penh - Vientiane - Luang Prabang. It is definitely worth spending some time in Vientiane.
