I've heard that a recently built 5-star resort has restricted acess to its part of the beach
I've read some reports saying you can't even walk along the beach (at certain point there'a guard stopping you where the resort's property starts).
What is the actual situction? If I stay at Malibu bungalows, can I use tghe beach freely or only the pert of the beach not adjacent to the resort?
Will appreciate any comments and updates!

Hi Julis,
Welcome to Travelfish!
Yes, we've heard a few reports about Sokha Hotel staff chasing off non-guests, although that hasn't been our experience -- we had no problems walking up and down the beach, swimming and generally laying around -- though perhaps we were mistaken for guests. The beach in front of Malibu Bungalows is actually separated from the main stretch of Sokha Beach be some rocks so the two are separated (though the main beach is far nicer).

we stay at malibu bungalows, a perfect place, in december 2005.
the new and uggly sokha hotel, take quite all the beach, but the malibu has is beach, small but very quiet.
one day we decided to go on the sokha beach, a private guard ask us if we were from the hotel. we tell him that we wanted to go to the sokha restaurant, and he let us go on.
there's a small public area, maybe 50 meters, but many local people, having a rest or a swim on this beach are quickly asked to drive back. for us, the guard didn't know if we were from the hotel or not.
the hotel was quite empty, only 4 or 6 customers were there. we went into all parts of this hotel, trying to find the way out, the only noise that you hear is the enormous generator, and the 50 gardeners who works.
