We flight to Phnom Penh from Bangkok with Air Asia (hotly recomend) .In airport meet us our driver Pen Chettra very reliable and good driver and guide.
His e-mail: chettrataxi@yahoo.com
He took us for PP city tour, and drove further to SR on the road we stoped to lunch in Green World Restaurant 72 near Skon it was very good sea food dishes -very recomend. In Siem Riep we stayed in Piece Of Angkor Guest house, quiet and clean place, but best rooms are on second floor. Our driver took us next day to Angkor Wat, and Cambodia cultural Wilidge. Next day we continue with our taxi to PP, where we stayed overnight in Bodhi Tree giust house. Clean and very good restaurant.

Hi, is it safe to take a taxi from Poipet to Siem Reap overnight? I'll reach Poipet at 8 plus in the evening.

hey rong,
are you arriving via aranyaprathet and thailand or from some other destination? if you are arriving from thailand, have you checked to see if the border crossing will be open that late?
in any case, i personally would not be anxious to make the drive from poipet to siem reap at night, if for no other reason than the condition of the road. i've similarly heard others recommend that if arrive later in the day, that your best bet is to overnight in aranyaprathet on the thai side of the border and then get an early start in the morning. i hope that fits your schedule/itinerary. cheers.

Hey thks Exacto! =)
Yup I'm coming from Bangkok. Should be reaching Aranyaprathet at ard 4pm if all goes smoothly.
I heard it's public hols in Cambodia from 13-16 May, and I'm not sure how long it'll take to clear the customs @ Cambodia/Vietnam side, considering it's public hols and the public buses from Khao San may have arrived by then.
Do you think i should stay over at aranyaprathet? Will it be safer? Or should i take the risk to cross over to poipet (not sure what time i'll reach there though) & take overnight taxi to Siem Reap? the border at poipet closes at 8pm.
thanks for your kind advice! my 1st time backpacking =P

Hi Rong,
I would advise you to stay the night in Aranyaprathet and cross the border into Cambodia in the morning. You will be very unlikely to find a taxi driver who would driver 3 hours over one of the worst roads in Cambodia at night time (i.e. anytime after 6.30pm) certainly not without hiking up the inflated price of (currently) about $60 somewhat.
Leaving in the morning would mean more time to meet up with other travellers to share a taxi (recommended) or you can take the first bus from Poipet to Siem Reap, but the taxi would be a lot quicker.

rong,
roo really knows her stuff about this route so i'd listen closely to whatever she recommends. plus, everything else i've ever heard agrees with her that you should overnight in aranyaprathet and get an early start in the morning. check out the talesofasia website for more details.
