Sen Monoram to Ban Lung road

Posted by stevie123 on 26/1/2014 at 17:25

Hi has anybody taken this route recently? Looking to see if it is doable on a hired moped or dirt bike and guide?

How much and how long does it take and is it worth doing.

I'm definitely up for an adventure! ;o)

Going in February.

Hi Stevie,

Sorry, but I've never been to Banlung so I can't compare. I don't think you'll do bad with either choice but I hope that others who have been to both places will contribute. I do have a good connection in Sen Monorom who can link you up with the indigenous peoples. He has lived there for a long time and there is no charge for his service. He simply tries to help the local tribes. PM me if you are interested.

Traveled Banlung to Sen Monorom two weeks ago on my dirtbike, the Death Highways, as it was called is long gone. It is now an easy three hr journey. Bring warm clothes, it was 11c one morning in SM

Hi Stevie,

Trekking in Sen Monorom is wonderful.
You can travel on the dirt road from Sen Monorom through Koh Nherk and cross the bridge which just built then direct to Banlung.
Many things to explore on the way.

Mondulkiri is nice, but I don't think anywhere in Cambodia can compare to Virachey NP's Veal Thom Grasslands in terms of natural beauty. It's just stunning, and you'll hear gibbons singing every morning. Add an extra day and the guides (or at least Sou) can take you deeper into the forest to the D'dar Poom Chop waterfall camp. A truly sublime area to swim and just mellow out.

I came across from sen monorom to banlung on on a honda dream 24 April 2015. It is 180Kilometres and took 3 hours and 45 minutes. About 140k is good sealed road and the first 40k from sen monorom is well graded dirt road. There is a lot to work being done at the sen monorom end and I think it will be fully sealed soon (but the rainy season is only 2 months away so that could slow things down. Bye Bye to the good old fun "Death Highway".
