We want to visit Angkor Wat and as the flights from Bangkok are much cheaper to Phnom Penh than to Siem Reap we fly to Pnohm Penh and plan to go to Siem Reap by boat. What is a good guesthouse to stay for just one night (we arrive in the evening and leave for Siem Reap in the next day early in the morning)? Is there some possibility to stay near the place where the boats for Siem Reap leave????

Hi Christiane,
The boats leave from up near the bridge -- but Phnom Penh is a small town and most of the guesthouses are within about a five to ten minute tuk tuk ride of the pier. See our Phnom Penh accommodation listings for lots of suggestions.

This website does do a great job breaking down your options for any city. Phnom Penh is great--spend an extra day if you can spare it. The river area is my favorite, views, attractions, and action. Just get there and walk to what looks good. Lake area is primarily backpackers and accommodations are cheaper, both in price and the room you get. Also, Canby Publications on internet details Cambodia real well, but Travelfish can't be beat. Riverview and Angkorchey have $5 rooms near the river. Better rooms go for about $15-20--good luck
