Has anyone booked Air Asia online lately? I started out with a fare from Bangkok to Phnom Penh of 700 baht so that's 1400 baht for 2 tickets and by the time I got to the payment page it was 4,818 baht. What gives?

i booked a flight last week - the last price includes all the taxes and expenses which are quite high.
if you want to see all the different things you're paying click on "Going Out Total" :

Airport Tax
Insurance Surcharge
Administration Fee
Value Added Tax
Fuel Surcharge

All my taxes and surcharges for a domestic flight equally about $19 USD--the first response is correct, although, I;m not sure if we should be paying an airport tax to Air Asia, since airport will be hitting us up for that. Fees seem excessive to go from 1400B to 4818B, but it is what it is, I guess. Good luck--makes ya want to take the bus.

the airline now collects the airport taxes..so u will not be hit twice

Air asia does add all these charges at the end but the prices are so cheap to start with it balances out to a good stii.

Some things never change. Flew Air-never on time-Asia in 2008. Bought promotional tickets where my seats were free. Still cost almost 9500 Baht by the time I paid all the fees. They are like any of the other airlines and add the additionals such as fuel surcharge, surtax, airport tax, and landing fees. But as another poster says, still a good price--if you don't mind being late arriving :).

The Philipine carrier, PAL, earned their moniker Plane Always Late. So perhaps now we have new one, Air Asia, or should it be 'Arrives Aftertime.

pencilmein is quite correct: airport taxes are included air tickets now, and are no longer paid at the airport booth.

They changed up awhile back, when they raised airport taxes from 500 baht to 700 baht to help pay for the new airport.

Hiding the huge hike in airport fees was meant 1)
to be more in line with industry standard, but also
2) to cushion the blow to all us price-hike-weary travelers after having enjoyed our holidays--and that's appreciated.

Maybe I've just been lucky, but I've taken quite a few flights with Air Asia and they've all been on time...

Even though Air Asia don't include taxes and surcharges within their basic fares, they still tend to represent excellent value IMHO compared to other airlines. Plus if you fly Air Asia Malaysia you'll be flying on a brand new Airbus. I believe Air Asia Thailand started to receive their new planes at the end of last year too...

Is it better to buy my flights when I get to Thailand or online before I go? I thought the prices were pretty standard all the time?
