I'm interested in going from Phnom Penh to Sen Monorom in one day, hopefully having enough time to do some sightseeing there before dark. I hear pickups leave from Psar Thmei in the early morning. Planning to stop for an overnight in Kompong Cham on the way back. Anyone done this route? Advice, caveats, etc?

We took a 4WD pickup from Phnom Penh to Sen Monorom, left Phnom Penh around 6am and arrived there around 4pm -- we broke down once which cost about an hour. Given most of the attractions are a bit out of town, you'd be very hard pushed to do any sightseeing same day of arrival.

Kompong Cham is certainly worth a stop on the way back, really recommend doing a boat trip to Wat Maha Leap -- see the KC section of Travelfish for details.
