Based on my research I think there are about 2 options- A)Siem Reap bus to Bangkok to train to Chiang Mai to bus to Pai B)Siem Reap bus/boat to Phnom Penh flight to Chiang Mai Does anyone know of some secret other way?

With option A, you need not go back to Bangkok -- you could go from the border to Nakhon Ratchasima for example and get the bus north from there. Otherwise, no secret way unfortunately.

There was a small flight service from Chiang Mai to Pai. Or a minivan instead of the bus. Takes 2 hours but be prepared for car sickness. They fly on those twisty mountain roads.
