Well, my friend and I spent a week in Cambodia. We stayed three days in Phnom Pehn and three days in Siem Reap. We visited Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Singapore, Malaysia and Vietnam on this trip. I must say and my friend agrees wholeheartedly that we had the best time in Cambodia. Yes the little kids by the temples in Angkor Way can be really annoying but the courtesy of the tuk tuk drivers made up for this.

I must make special mention of Mr. Thy. We engaged his services for the three days we were in Siem Reap and he was a gentleman. The Cambodians who we meat were very friendly and helpful We really enjoyed the massage by the masseuse near the Deadfish restaurant-really relaxing. If you go check out the silk farm outside of Siem Reap, it was really interesting. Basically I just wanted to state my respect for the Cambodian people, they stood out among al the others. WE WILL DEFINITELY GO BACK.

I went to the Temples with an animated fellow called Tom. He is amiable, charming and he loves the black box. If you are in Siem Reap you should definitely take the time to contact him at the following email address:

Hey Blackskin!

I agree 100% that its one of the best places to visit. I am going back in 2 weeks for my 2nd visit in 12 months and can't wait to see some of the much less visited far away jungle temples and just have more time to spend with the Cambodian people I met last time and visit some socially worthwhile projects (schools, orphanages, micro-finance program, etc).

Which silk farm did you visit as I would love to do that also?

Cheers

if you get the chance have a look at the North Gate of Angkor Thom its a walk down a dirt track but well worth the look.

Hey layabout:

Thanks for the tip! The north gate is indeed often over looked and I did not see it last time. Now in PP heading up to SR tomorrow morning so I will get to see it soon!

Cheers

Hi Playground:

For me the bus was 'budget' at only $12. There are buses that are cheaper, I believe around $8 - $9. If you want to really go all out, I know people make the trip in open pick-up trucks with like up to 10 people in the double cab and 15 - 20 or so somehow arranged in the pick-up bed. I don't know where they leave from in PP (have only seem them in SR but they will obviously travel in both directions) and I believe they cost like $1. But I gotta tell ya, I am not sure you want to make the 6 - 7 hour trip that way unless you are truly a special kind of adventurer. In that case I bow down to you, oh king of the budget backpackers ;)... Check out the forums, travel sights or maybe Lonely Planet for more info. Have a great trip!
