Does anybody know how the scuba diving is in Cambodia?
I have heard rumours that you can do it in the south around Sihanoukville. Is this where i should head if i want to learn to open water dive?
Apparently it is a lot cheaper than in thailand so was hoping to get some feedback of what it is like ie is it padi certified, whats the scenery like, how much does it cost etc...
Anybody have any ideas?
Cheers

I recently went snorkelling off the coast at Sihanoukville, and I would say don't bother. What coral we saw seemed to be dead, and the fish weren't interested in hanging about around people. Apparently much of the coral was destroyed by dynamite fishing and has yet to recover, if it ever will.
Admittedly we were on a set day trip to three islands as were 7 other boats at the same time. And you can probably get to more interesting and adventurous reef when scuba diving, but I'd check if it's worth doing first. The islands and beaches are great though so worth visiting them anyway.

I returned from Cambodia/Thailand trip Nov, 13. Our trip include diving near Koh Tang and Koh Rong Samloem (near Sihanoukville).
Yes, you can take OWD course in Sihanoukville, there is a lot of dive shops. Personally me, I can recommend "The Dive Shop of Cambodia".

Yea, you can do it in Sihanoukville. I did my OWD at ecoseadive which was great.
The Islands not the best spot of the world I guess but for learning scubadiving it was perfect. Especially at a spot called "cornerbar" I had the biggest fishes and the best corals...
Beside the the place you can think about the currency which makes diving in Cambodia compared to germany very cheap.

I live and work in Thailand and regularly commute between Phnom Penh and Koh Kong. I didsome diving in Koh Kong and it was great, the visibility was excellent and we saw lots of fish and sharks.
I normally dive in Koh Chang with my buddies but we have now moved our dive location to Koh Kong. I completed my Advaced Padi with Koh Kong Divers and their staff and company was very good and helpful. I would highly recommend diving with them on www.kohkongdivers.com
