We will be arriving Phnom Phen by bus from Siem Reap at around 5:30 PM and was wondering if we can do any shopping in the Central/Russian markets at night? We fly to BKK very early next morning.

Hi veron,
Both the markets will largely be closed by then. Probably best to try and get your shopping done in Siem Reap.

My relative had informed me that the best bargain shopping can be done at Poipet or Sisophon, along Cambodian-Thai border. It is such as a nostalgic feeling, my family and I had used that very same highway and towns when we escaped into Thailand in 1979. We had walked several months zigzag throughout several villages and towns along the ways so that to get caught by Khmer Rouges or NVA. I will try to retrace my footstep on my next trip to Cambodia, from Battambang to Poipet.
