Hi y'all....
After backpacking round Laos and then having a nosey in Cambodia (Angkor Wat, P.P mainly) was thinking that we might need a bit of a beach break for 5-6 days! Will be there end of Sept- first wk Oct.
Any suggestions where and for how long??
My friend suggested skipping Sihanoukville and going to stay in some little islands of Kep (staying one night on the way in Kampot at Bangkor Park)?
And the big question - are we going to even get any beach time at that time of the year or is the weather going to be shocking?? And not worth it?
Better to go somewhere in Thailand maybe??
Thanks heaps!! :)

there are some islands off kep-but you can hardly stay there, a simple lack of accomodation on these isles. this is cambodia, this is less touristy than thailand. i´d suggest: try the islands off trat, koh mak f.e., or even koh chang ,this time of the year. the beginning of oct. is the ending of the rainy season as well. you might be lucky and have a nice time. the weather should´nt be shocking at all. in the worst case you´ll get a few hours of rain every day-this means sunshine as well!

Don't agree that you can "hardly stay" on the islands near Kep. Often go to Rabbit Island for long weekends and more, and while accommodation is basic, it is there. Good luck with the weather- it's mainly luck of the draw! And even if the weather doesn't work out, Rabbit Island is only a 20min boat ride from Kep so you could always go across and just try it for the day...

Thanks heaps for your suggestions guys. Think will try my luck and head down south anyway hopefully the weather holds up for us.
Do you know the best way and quickest way of getting to Bangkok from Sihanoukville or around that area? Dont really want to go back to P.P to fly back but might have to?
Thanks again! :)
From Sihanoukville you can take a boat or bus (I'd suggest bus in the time of year you're talking about due to rough seas) to Ko Kong, then cross the border and take a minibus to Trat then a bus to Bangkok.

Cool thank for that - one more little question - about how long does that take?
Looking at the time we have not sure if we have time to do both S.ville & islands off Kep, which do you recommend for some beach time?
Cheers!! :)
The trip from Sanookyville to Ko Kong takes around 5 hours -- minibus maybe a little less depending on road conditions.
Bearing in mind that wherever you go on the coast in Cambodia the weather will be pretty ordinary -- I'd lean towards Ko Tonsay -- it's super basic (and I mean super basic) but to be honest, that's what I love about it -- a starry night, lapping water, no electricity and a semi cold beer -- who needs anything more ;-)

Hey Somtam,
Thanks for that. Kon Tonsay sounds great - agree thats all you need in life - esp the last point in large quantities ideally!!!
Am still playing around with the idea of maybe going straight from P.P to Koh Chang or the like instead of to S.ville or Kep area. What do you reckon for that time of year weather wise & easiest to get to from P.P? I know its a bit of crystal ball gazing and nothing is guaranteed but any recommendations would be great!
We are a bit short on time unfortunately & also need to get back to Bangkok to fly home from wherever we are. So was thinking that Koh Chang might be easier/quicker to get back to BK?
