My husband and I are flying into PNH from BKK using Air Asia on in mid-Aug and have arranged airport pick-up, a half-day tour in PNH and Mekong Express bus tickets to Siem Reap at 12hr30. We have booked our hotel in Siem Reap.
In the trip advisor forum, there were many comments made about Air Asia being late or even worst, cancelling flights. Since there is only 1 flight from BKK to PNH, I am hopeful that our flight will get into PNH on time. If it arrives super late (like 4 hours), is there a place where we can pick up a shared taxi to Siem Reap? I was quoted US$90-US$100 for a private a/c car to Siem Reap which is too much for our budget.
Thanks in advance.

You can get shared taxis, but from memory they all tend to leave early in the mornings and return back to Phnom Penh the same day. However, I've travelled with Air Asia several times now and the flights - so far - have all been on time, so hopefully your original plan will work!
If your flights did end up being really late, unless time is a major problem, it's probably cheaper to spend the night in P/P and get the early morning bus the next day.

Your suggestion of staying overnight at Phnom Phen is good except that we have already booked our Siem Reap hotel and our Angkor Wat tour guide with car for the next 3 days.
I am crossing my fingers that the Air Asia flight will arrive on time.
Thanks for your input.

At Psar Thmei (the big central market) at Phnom Penh you should be able to arrange a taxi to Siem Reap for around US$50 for the whole car --90-100US is very high (maybe it's a flash car!).
As with tails, I've flowen AirAsia dozens of times and have never had a problem with the flight being late or cancelled -- that's not to say it doesn;t hapen of course.

Read in the Lonely Planet that we can rent a car to Siem Reap from Phnom Penh for 35 US dollar.
But.. so far the cheapest ones is 45 dollar. Which is good I have to say..
nice Camry car nice AC took 4 hours and had no problem at all on our way to Siem Reap. It was so smooth journey.
Sunrise booking tour Mobile 085592853119
But we got that from the Sisowath Quay.
Since you will be renting the whole car, make sure that the driver drop you to the hotel at Siem Reap not at the drop off share taxi point. Because from there you have to take moto to the hotel.
We took Air Asia from BKK and it was sharp on time! So I hope you won't need all the information above

I highly recommend Sam. We visited Siem Reap in March of 2009 and were fortunate enough to book his tuk-tuk services prior to leaving the US. We hired him for two days with one day to visit the Temples and one day of sight seeing. Everywhere that he took us was great, but the best part is his attitude. At no time did we ever feel pushed or that we were out of control. And his restaurant connections are great! Upon leaving Siem Reap and traveling to Phnom Penh Sam also made arrangements with a partner named David to pick us at the bus station. This helped a lot because we then had a connection we felt we could trust in PP. I will definately use this service when I return to Cambodia!
