How long does this journey take on the bus? And is it possible to get a direct bus? And how much does it cost?
Thanks
Ben

Hi Ben,
the journey takes a while,
I guess there are various companies who run it in various ways, but when I did it, it was a very long day... Bus from BKK to the border,
then change to another bus/truck, and cross the border, go through passport check, then on horrible buses all the way to Siem Reap.
I think I got there somewhere around 8pm ...
hope this helps

Thanks Shira for the response.
So does it take about a day? And how much did it cost altogether?
Thanks
Ben

I also plan to go by bus next Friday 17 July 2009. Will collect information and share, if I go by bus.

Ben,
I've never done this myself but am about to make this journey in late August. I've found the Tales of Asia site (referenced in the link Hoang provided) particularly useful and comprehensive in describing the border crossing.
http://www.talesofasia.com/cambodia-overland-bkksr.htm
As the road connecting the two cities is now complete, the travel is supposedly much quicker than in the past. From what I've read, it can now be done in as little as 8 hrs (if you take a taxi from the border to Siem Reap) but I would budget more time.
I'd love to hear from you guys on how the journey goes once you've done it.

Oh wow. I'm doing this trip (by myself in about 3 weeks. and I would love any advice you could give me. :) I figured a day would be enough for the journey if I start at the crack'o'dawn...?

The road from Poipet to Siem reap has been completely sealed now and the trip by share taxi can take as little as 1.5 hours.
I need to update the Bangkok to Siem Reap story -- will do this w/e.
