The fast boat from KC to Kratie looks very uncomfotable & you don't see the scenery unless on the roof.Does anyone know if you can hire a safe comfortable boat with driver to do the trip there & back independantly?
Also same question for Battambang to Siem Reap?
Thanks for your help,
Darrell

Hi Darrell,
Welcome to Travelfsh!
As far as I know the boats between Kratie and Kompong Cham are no longer running as the road has improved considerably. I guess you could find a boat to take you but if it was a charter (ie not a cargo boat) the cost would be pretty high I'd imagine.
For the Battambang to Siem Reap route, the quality of the boats varies considerably and you're just down to what is going on that day -- while you probably could charter your own boat, the fee again would be very high -- perhaps try at a travel agent in Siem Reap to sort it out of you could try down at the pier, though I'd suggest going down there the day before to see what you could sort out -- again I can't really help out on price.

Thanks for such a prompt reply somtam. This site is a great find.
By 'pretty high' what sort of range would you estimate?
If anyone else has an answer to my query would be greatly appreciative,
Cheers Darrell

Hi Darrell
I reckon you'd be paying around US$35/40 for a charter from Siem Reap to Battambang. It's about US$15 for the daily ferry.
chill....................

Thanks steviej.
That's helpful info. If there are 4 of us[i.e. get 2 other travellers to join us] it is actually cheaper to charter own boat!
If anyone is interested intend to do this [i.e. BB>SR] on 13/11.
But even if only 2 worth it for convenience I suspect?
Have you 'done' Cambodia recently?Any other helpful hints?
Cheers, Darrell

Hi Darrell,
Steviej's estimate strikes me as pretty low -- I'd have thought a charter would be at least US$100, if not a lot more -- bear in mind if its $15 a head, they'll cram 20+ people into the boat... still I'm just guessing -- let us know how you go

On the website there is mention of smaller wooden boats for hire for river trips.Would it not be possible to get the better of these to take us to SR for about the estimate by steviej?Love the help this website is, & will definitely 'feedback' updated info on return as I suspect Cambodia is fast ever-changing at present.

Another query for you & any other up to date info. sources on Cambodia.
Do you know or know where to find out if the sights in Phnom Penh i.e.Royal Palace, Silver Pagoda, Museum etc. are open during the Water Festival? We were planning to visit them on 5/6 Nov.but don't know if they will be closed on these dates due to Festival?
Info. would be much appreciated,
Darrell

Have just returned from Cambodia & have info. regarding previous queries for those who want same info. Boats from Kompong Cham to Kratie can be hired fir $140US!! 1 way, or $160 both ways if same day. $160 to wait 1 day & return following day.
Same from Battambang to Siem Reap but regular service goes daily for $15US p.p. which is fine.
