Last month we stayed in battambang and liked it a lot. It is a quit but intresting city. If you want to learn more about the architecture you can download a walking map on www.ka-tours.org. They have one of phnom penh too. Recommended.
We also want to recommend Smokin'pot the restaurant. Good khmer food at a resonable price. We followed the cooking class there and liked the ambiance of the place and staff. We stayed at a hotel in the city but for people who want to save money the restaurant has a dorm with airco for 2 or 3 dollar.
We did a tuk tuk trip to the country-side and bamboo-train with Dr Blue. The tuk-tuk driver who is hanging around at the Smokin'pot. Ask for him in the restaurant. Its a very pleasant guy, loving his job. And driving at a very resonable price.
If you have luck you can go and watch a circus-show at Phare Ponleu Selpak, check www. phareps.org. If there is no show you can visit the school. A very positive project.
Enjoy you stay!
Where did you stay in Battambang? We were going to go for La Villa as the write up on Travelfish was so good, but looking on other wesbsites very recent reviews are pretty dire. We thought we were going to be able to treat ourselves here for a few days. Any advice?
