Yes, it really is as simple as that -- we'll pay for you to learn to dive.
Uber-experienced diving instructor Ayesha Cantrell offers personalised diving tuition on Thailand's Ko Tao. We're offering to pick up the tab for you to learn to dive with Ayesha and her diving mate Wilco. The course normally costs 9,800B (around US$290). If you win, you could learn to dive for free and spend the other 9,800 on other stuff -- like travelling!
All you need to do is say why you want to dive in 30 words or less by midnight, and we'll pick the winner.
Small print: The prize is valid until July 12, 2010, is not redeemable for Singha, cash or anything else and is subject to availability. Basically, the winner should buy their own beer, plan to dive within a year and book early ;-)
We’ve always wanted to learn to dive. Our December air tickets are already sorted. Plus, I just got the new Ko Tao 2009 Travelfish guide! It’s a perfect fit!

“Carrying your surfboard around Tao doesn’t make you look cool” says LadyT. She’s right - it’s swaggering divers with their wetsuits rolled down who have the look. Problem, I don’t dive.
The strange and beautiful fish and gorgeous coral landscapes in Southeast Asia already fascinate me as a snorkeller. Like being on a different planet. I would love to explore deeper.
I did a dive course here in NZ many years ago, and on my first post-course trip in the Poor Knights area (in NZ), I had a series of minor bad experiences that sort of freaked me out and I decided the safest option for me at that point was to pull out of the dive.
I have been somewhat reluctant to try diving since - mostly due to fear. It's about time I overcome this, especially as I would be visiting some of the best dive areas in the world on my 6 months holiday (including Koh Tao, Flores and finishing up in Sulawesi. Whist I'm happy to snorkle - this could be the opportunity I need to do another course to gain the confidence back to have a good look further down!
Oops - just re-read the original post and in my haste I missed the part about 30 words or less. If allowed, pls ignore my first attempt! here goes attempt #2:
----------------------------------------------------------
I need to conquer the fear acquired from an aborted previous dive attempt! I could then venture below the water surface to explore the mysteries of the depths beyond!

I have always wanted to learn how to dive to see life under the sea! Planned on learning last November, but protests in Bangkok forced me to change my plans!

I have experienced tropical fish only in tanks and in my dreams. To share a moment with them up close and personal would mean the world to me.

Under the sea? Under the sea?
Darling, it's better down where it's wetter.
Take it from me!

It's fate! I'm on Khoa San Rd right now looking to book a dive course in Koh Tao in two weeks! My last hurrah before an intense 2 years of school...

He dives, I snorkel. I'd love to learn so we can dive together. Ko Tao seems like a way better place to learn than an indoor swimming pool!

OK thanks to everyone for the entries. It's midnight now and Travelfish HQ is shutting down for the evening -- ie., I'm going to bed!
We've passed all the entries over to Ayesha and we'll announce a winner tomorrow.
Thanks!
