Hello, does anyone know of any good places to rent bikes in Vientiane to cycle around?

hi loisijones,
Welcome to Travelfish!
Many guesthouses in Vientiane hire out bicycles -- if your place doesn't, just ask around and you should be able to find a spot that does -- it's a popular way for backpackers to explore the city.

Yup, push bikes are popular and found almost everywhere. The cost is typically about $1/10,000 kip per day per bike. They usually aren't great machines, but the city is relatively flat, so it is easy enough to get around.
By the way, I've mentioned this before but it is worth repeating here. If you are on a push bike or a motor scooter, wear your day pack on your back and do not place it in the basket on the front of the bike. It is not uncommon for two-person teams to shoot past you on a motorbike and snatch your backpack. Cheers.

Thanks for the tip. There are backpacks that have a latch in the front that will prevent this from happening. You can just snap that front strap and this will keep it safely on you as you travel. I would also recommend keeping your cell phone and other valuables in your front pocket.
