Hey everyone
My SEA journey kicks off in a couple weeks. I've spent hours upon hours on this fantastic site--its been an invaluable resource.
So here's my question. What are the BEST places to stay in SE Asia? I'm not asking for a couple decent places here and there, no, which little Thai guesthouse blew you away, so much that you remember the name of caretaker 10 years later?
There are plenty of five star accommodations all over the place, but you can't buy character.
What's your single favorite place to drop your bags and kick up your feet?

I saw your request when it was initially posted and thought...
I felt that others might be better at making suggestions.
As for which place...
None. I really don't perceive GH's as an alternate home away from home. To me, a GH is merely a place to sleep & shower, and a base to go do it (whatever it may be).
So, as long as it's clean, (hopefully) welcoming, and comfortable, there ends my expectation.
Here are ten to get you started -- I've gone for a spread across some of the destinations we cover.
In no particular order:
Niyana's, That Phanom
Salaphae, Don Dhet
Beach Club, Phu Quoc Island
Hoa's Place, China Beach
Three J Guesthouse, Kamphaeng Phet
Cave Lodge, Soppong
Mutmee, Nong Khai
Hin Wong Bunaglows, Ko Tao
Ao Toh Koh, Ko Phi Phi
Cloud 9, Ochheuteal Beach
